Dramatic walk off wins are nothing new to this years New York Yankees club. A.J. Burnett, had started the tradition of smacking pies in the face of any player that comes up with a walk off winning hit this season. That tradition carried into the playoffs last night and it just so happens Burnett was the starting pitcher. Last night recipient was first baseman Mark Teixeira. Teixeira and Jeter are the two most noteable players that had not had the pleasure of having a pie slammed into their face while giving a post game interview.
Mark Teixeira hit a game winning, walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th innings last night in Game 2 of the ALDS. The Yankees were down 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth innings before Alex Rodriguez continued his hot hitting with a monster blast over the right centerfield wall to tie the game at 3.
For the Yankees to advance deep into the playoffs, they will need their big money players to come up big when its needed the most. So far they have. Big time pitchers CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett were signed in the offseason for just this moment. They have both performed very well. The big time hitters in this dangerous Yankees lineup, A-Rod and Teixeira have provided the dramatic hits. Derek Jeter has also chipped in with a big home run back in game 2.
The Yankees now take a 2 games to 0 lead to Minnesota where they will try to finish off the Twins. Andy Pettitte takes the mound for the Yankees. The Twins are most likely sending ex-Yankee disabled list star, Carl Pavano to the mound with hopes of keeping their season alive.
